All the Celebrity Parents Who Changed Their Babies' Names

If it seems like more celebrities are changing their babies' names these days, that's because they are.

Incidents of starbaby name changes have gone up since 2020, in part because of a reduced stigma around baby name regret. Also known as baby name remorse, it reportedly affects between 10-20% of all new parents. For some, the only solution is to change their baby's name!

If you're one of those parents, no need to panic. Check out our guide on How to Change Your Baby's Name and remember, you're in good company! Stars including Kylie Jenner, Amy Schumer, and recently, Lauren Bushnell have been in your shoes.

Here, all of the celebrity parents who have legally changed their children's names.

Lauren Bushnell & Chris Lane

Baby's original name: Baker Weston

Baby's new name: Baker West

Ahead of his first birthday, influencer Lauren Bushnell and country singer Chris Lane revealed that they changed their son's name from Baker Weston to Baker West.

Bushnell explained that they "panicked" in the hospital, saying, “We just couldn’t decide and it was between West and Weston, and we ended up going with Weston.” Furthermore, she added, "[H]is personality is so much more of a West than a Weston, so now he’s Baker West."

Khloe Kardashian & Tristan Thompson

Baby's original name: Baby Kardashian

Baby's new name: Tatum Robert

Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson took their time finding the perfect name for their baby boy, so he was legally registered as Baby Kardashian until they made their decision.

In May 2023, The US Sun reported on Khloe Kardashian's son's name, revealing it to be Tatum Robert. But it took until that August — over a year after his birth — for a Los Angeles county judge to grant the official name change.

Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott

Baby's original name: Wolf

Baby's new name: Aire

Kylie Jenner made headlines in 2022 when she announced that her son's name was no longer Wolf, her original choice.

In an episode of The Kardashians, Jenner revealed, “We had to sign the birth certificate, or they would register him without a name or Social Security number. So, I felt the pressure to choose a name. We put Wolf Webster at the time and right after I signed the birth certificate I thought, ‘what did I just do?'”

It took almost a full year for her to settle on the right name for her baby boy: Aire, one of the trending atmospheric names set to soar in 2024.

Grimes & Elon Musk

Baby's original name: X Æ A-12

Baby's new name: X Æ A-XII

Billionaire Elon Musk and his then-partner Grimes welcomed their first child in 2020, whom they named X Æ A-12. But according to California state law, numerals are not allowed in given names, so the couple was forced to alter their son's name to X Æ A-XII.

Explaining the meaning of X Æ A-XII, Grimes tweeted that X is "the unknown variable", while Æ is her "elven spelling of Ai", referencing both the Japanese word for love and Artificial Intelligence. According to Grimes, A-12 is "the precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent".

Amy Schumer & Chris Fischer

Baby's original name: Gene Atell

Baby's new name: Gene David

Amy Schumer named her son Gene Attell to honor her late friend and fellow comedian Dave Attell. Soon after she announced his name, fans pointed out the combo had an unsavory soundalike and some even questioned if her name reveal was a joke! After they realized their mistake, Schumer and her husband Chris Fischer legally changed their son's name.

On her podcast, Schumer shared, “So do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name, is officially changed? It’s now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realized that we, by accident, named our son ‘genital.’ Gene Attell sounds like genital."

Lauren & Aaron Paul

Baby's original name: Casper Emerson

Baby's new name: Ryden Caspian

Lauren and Aaron Paul shared the news of their son Ryden Caspian just weeks after his arrival, but TMZ reported that he left the hospital with a different name — Casper Emerson!

The couple never publically commented on their son's name change, nor their most recent name change as a family. Aaron legally changed his last name to Paul — originally his middle name — from Sturtevant. Lauren also made the switch to Paul from her maiden name, Parsekian.

Caterina Scorsone & Rob Giles

Baby's original name: Arwen Lucinda

Baby's new name: Lucinda "Lucky"

Grey's Anatomy star Caterina Scorsone and her then-husband Rob Giles originally called their third daughter Arwen Lucinda, but had a change of heart.

In an Instagram post made when her daughter was four months old, Scorsone stated, "By the way, we went with what was her middle name. Lucinda. “Lucky” for short."
